Polini Thor 80 LC (liquid Cooled) Paramotor Engine

polini thor 80 lc

Thor 80 is Polini’s new mini 2 stroke paramotor engine is compact in size, liquid-cooled.

The Thor 80 weighs 12.5kg. It is liquid cooled, not unique in the paramotor world but this one has a forced air cooled radiator. See the diagram below, engine mount layout is per other thor engines 130, 190, 200. This one has a plastic shield ducting air from an internal fan behind the starter up through the radiator, allowing for the radiator to be kept tight and tidy behind the pilot.

Measuring 41cm wide x 54cm high & 30cm deep is it compact, especially given it has a radiator.

polini thor 80 cooling

The power plant measures 86cc 50×44 for 17 hp at 10,450 rpm, compression ratio 14.01

The engine comes with Polini own CP d.21 carburetor or it can be ordered with the more familiar Walbro WG8 carburetor. A dry-centrifugal clutch, with 3.58 gear reduction with helical teeth in oil bath. As this engine has a clutch and gear reduction it is also flash starter equipped.

Thrust test video suggest 55kg with 130cm prop.  The liquid cooling will aid in economy and we expect the little engine to be fairly frugal.

EOS 100 Paramotor Engine for PPG 9.5kg with 50kg Thrust

The Austrian made EOS 100 Paramotor engine.

100cc Belt drive with a clutch, easy pull start engine, competes head to head with the well known Top80 and other engines in this class. Build quality is high, economy is good, power is 50kg + category, the engine feels small and I wouldn’t believe the delivery box even contained an engine. UK price of £1995 with auto decompressor (as shown on the custom-air website)

EOS 100 engine

  • Lightweight & compact construction
The very light engine is built small, nicely and compact with the use of only highest quality materials. Well manufactured in all details by the use of most modern techniques with a smart constellation of components which are perfectly working together.
  • Optimum operation
The engine is easy to start up, with a smooth and constant run at idle. The well adjusted carburetor together with the unique HIFLOW-SHOT air box care for an even run in all revolutions. Perfectly balanced crankshaft, fly wheel and shafts care for a low vibration. The fan cooling prevents the engine against overheating and allows long duration runs at full power.
  • Power & thrust
Considering the small size and very low weight, the moderate compression ratio for a durable and long life span, the small displacement, the engine gives an optimum thrust and astonishing power.
  • Reliable quality
The well proven engine concept and the use of highest quality materials and components, the best workmanship and accurate engine assembly, all grant for a highest quality product and reliable engine run throughout a long period of operation.

Air Conception produce Titanium Exhaust for 130cc engine further reducing weight

Air Conception the well known French Paramotor manufacturer has produced a Titanium Exhaust for their Ultimate 130cc engine, making this little power plant even lighter. The engine that was already one of the lightest power to weight units available is now only 10.5kg when fitted with the titanium exhaust, with specs of 25hp & claimed thrusts up to 68kg. Not only lighter the titanium exhaust is reported to be stronger and quieter.

Adding the titanium exhaust brings the complete weight of the Ultimate 130 titanium paramotor down to a mere 19.5kg. We can say it is a nice looking exhaust and a welcome departure from the common black painted exhausts we are used to seeing. Can be seen in the UK at Custom-Air.

Bailey Hornet 2 Stroke Twin Cylinder Paramotor Engine

Since the beginning of the year Bailey Aviation have been designing and developing a new PPG 2 stroke engine, known as the Hornet. The Hornet has been designed due to many customer requests for an ‘Ultimate’ 2 stroke engine that is powerful, lightweight and reliable.

The engine is a twin cylinder design that is very compact and lightweight. It will fit in the ‘higher power’ end of the market and be primarily aimed at slalom competition flying.

Utilising a helical gear reduction system, centrifugal clutch and manual pull start arrangement, power output is around 28-30hp (TBC) and all up weight is around 15.5kg.

They will be officially launching this new engine at the Coupe-Icare exhibition in St Hilaire in France from 19th-22nd September. Why not come and see it for yourself – for details of the Coupe-Icare exhibition, please visit their official website here:- www.coupe-icare.org/GB_home.html

Specification and prices for the Hornet will be relesed over the coming weeks, so please make sure to re-visit their web site for the latest updates. http://www.baileyaviation.com

New engine from Polish manufacturer TechnoFly, the Rotor H-130

TechnoFly the company that brought us the Ventor 125 a light weight engine that incorporated a clutch, a geared re-drive and an electric starter all into a 13.3kg engine package.

They have now gone on to produce an even lighter paramotor engine by eliminating the clutch, gearbox and starter motor to produce a pull start, belt driven engine that not only weighs less but cost less also, citing that one of the most expensive parts on an engine is the gearbox. The new engine dubbed the ROTOR H-130 claims to produce 65kg thrust yet is only 11.3kg complete with exhaust.

TechnoFly state that the engine is designed with a horizontal cooling head for improve airflow.

Polini Thor 200 – clutch, pull start / electric start 193cc 29hp

Maybe the end of Simonini’s reign over the 200cc market.

The Polini Thor 200 is about to make a stand.

We have really enjoyed the quality of the polini thor 100 and now the bigger brother has come to play.

Polini Thor 200 engine features advance technical solutions; dimensions, power torque ratio, reduced vibrations, performance of climb, innovative and compact design. Everything has been studied to grant the best weight-power ratio, optimizing the heat functions and the flywheel mass.

The power unit with 193cc displacement, 64mm bore and 60mm stroke, is cast in light alloy. It offers the maximum performance with a 29hp power at 7400 rev/min. even at the maximum working temperature. The cylinder liner has a nickel -chrome coating for the best piston sliding. The piston is gravity die-cast in light alloy at high silicon content with 2 chromed and nitrided steel rings

The exhaust system is completely hand made for a better product quality. The muffler has been designed to achieved a compact design and contained dimensions. The reduced overall dimensions improve the aerodynamic and grant a low noise level.

The forced air cooling system grants a better air cooling, optimizing the performance and maintaining even temperature.

The engine has a balance countershaft that grants a great comfort when driving during the flight since it cancels the vibrations. The engine can be fixed with stiff silent blocks avoiding the irritating engine shaking.

The centrifugal clutch has been studied to grant the best safety features during all the phases, starting, take off, flight and landing.

Thor 200 engine is provided with the new Polini “Flash Starter”, really easy to start. The engine can be also equipped with electric starter.

Great power, low fuel consumption, performance optimization at every rpm; these features are granted thanks to the PWK Ø28 carburetor.

Polini THOR 200 features many other technical solutions and safety characteristics. The system with closed circuit for the fuel collection during its transportation. Pre-arrangement for 12V exit for future electric devices. Very low propeller over turning torque granted by the counter turning masses.
